Frequently Asked Questions about what we do

I see you guarantee national media coverage for your clients?

Yes, that’s correct.

What do you mean by national media coverage?

We mean editorial content in the UK national media. This includes national newspapers, magazines (including trade), TV, radio and online.

What is editorial content?

The bit that isn’t adverts – in other words the part people actually read / watch and take notice of. Independent studies have concluded that editorial content is something like two to three times more effective than advertising is conveying messages to consumers.

Are you saying advertising doesn’t work then?

Advertising is still a powerful marketing tool, particularly if you have the budget of the Coca-Colas and McDonalds of this world. But for most businesses with more modest marketing budgets advertising is often expensive and ineffective. That’s why advertising revenues are falling year on year while at the same time PR is growing as more and more business owners wake up to the power of editorial endorsement.

If I engage London PR how much national media coverage will I get?

That’s a tough question to answer here because every project is different but you are guaranteed coverage worth more than your spend with us in advertising value equivalent. That means we promise you at least as much national media coverage as your money would have bought in advertising or you can have your fee back.

So I will get about the same as if I bought an advert but it’ll be editorial rather than advertising?

That is the minimum money back promise we make to all clients. In reality we work hard to deliver far in excess of that. Generally speaking we prefer to under-promise and over-deliver.

On the video on your home page it says London PR has delivered more than £100m worth of media coverage since 2006. What does that mean?

We started up in 2006 and since then we have calculated that we’ve won media coverage for our clients worth more than £100m in advertising value equivalent. It’s a figure that increases week on week as we win more and more coverage for our clients in the national media.

Can you get me onto the telly?

Maybe. If you talk to us we’ll assess your story and look at the potential angles for media coverage.  We are trained journalists so we are very good at spotting angles and creating stories the media find difficult to resist.

How much do your services cost?

We are consultants who sell our time so the cost of a project will depend on how much of our time is needed to deliver it. Please call us to discuss our rates.

How is your approach different from other PR agencies?

We take a more journalistic approach than most other public relations agencies because our team is made up of former journalists. With each client we create stories and present them to the media in a format they find hard to resist.

What about your discounted rates for start-ups?

We love working with new companies at the start-up phase and understand that budgets are limited. That’s why we offer a discount of 20% to start-ups in their first year of trading. Once the start-up reaches the one year milestone we then revert to our usual rates.

Will coverage in the national media help me to sell my products?

Media coverage will make millions of potential customers aware of your product or service. That has to be good for business.

You guarantee national media coverage. Can you also guarantee I will make extra sales?

Our goal is to help you grow your business, but clearly if your service or product isn’t what people are looking for then media coverage won’t help you to sell it. You should test your market and ensure your offering works and that your sales channels are all in place before seeking media coverage.

Should I have a press page on my website?

Yes, we encourage all our clients to collect the media coverage we obtain for them and put it together in a press page. Over time this will grow to an impressive collection of media coverage which evidences the high standing of the company with the UK media and therefore the wider public. This gives you real credibility and independent studies have shown that such credibility is an aid to converting enquiries to sales. In other words, a well-stocked press page will aid sales.

Will you work for a share of our profits?

No I’m sorry, we don’t work in this way. We are a consultancy and our business model is simple and straightforward. We sell our time.

How long does it take to achieve national media coverage?

Every project is different. Sometimes we win national media attention within a few days of starting work with a client. In other cases it can take three months. On average clients can expect to be featured in the national media in around six weeks. Some target media take longer though. For example some of the monthly glossy magazines have lead times of several months.

Do you only work with London based clients?

No, not at all. Our clients come from all over the UK and we also have clients in the US, Canada, Holland and Israel.  We welcome enquiries from potential clients wherever you are in the world.
